My first experiences and impressions in the world of domain trade. Or how it came about. Domainbusiness; could it be a challenge for me ?

Beginnings:
Originally, I wanted just register the domain salatsauce.com for me with the aim to create a website about cooking and recipes. But I never found time for it, because of work and study. Also in the same time my daugther was born.

Just over three years, then I registered about 24 in-domains, because United-domains.de made advertising. As a result, I parked this domain on sedo.de with the expectation of parking revenue. My expectations were not met, the domains that I no longer wanted to prolong. Unfortunately (I thought at that time) I missed the timely termination of my portfolio.

The first concrete questions came in the beginning of this year from interested parties on the basis of the Whois directory. Three years later when I did register my domains.

Valuations - Appraisals
Since I was always confident that I have some very good names, I was curious what my domains are worth. Soon, I realised that for the same domain name I recived two different opinions up to 20000 U.S. dollars were visible difference. My advice to order appraisal is Sedo.com, Afternic.com and Nicit.com. These appraisals are seriously prepared and should therefore be regarded as basis for negotiations.

Many appraisals are not worth the money that were paid. Finally, the principle - supply and demand. For the domain alv.in I have already received some inquiries, including the domain Tower.in, pc-shop and samantha.in. For alv.in recommends a report by nicit.com a selling price of 750 euros. At this time a reasonable price.

At this stage I could these domains for sale a few hundred dollars, which would be tempting, as I have already received some offers.

But the value of india domains will grow more and more. So is good to wait and keep good domains.

First sale of a domain
Just four months ago I sold a india domain (my first!) For 350 euros. This buyer now offers this domain at Sedo.com for 35000 Euro. Is it possible that someone will pay so much?

Transactions - or how does it work
If you sell a domain at sedo.com, they will charge about 10% from the selling price. As an alternative to sedo.com I also recommended escrow.com.This service is cheaper and faster.

The development of Indian domains

As mentioned above could be only a little more than three years as a foreigner, the first Indian to register domains. At that time, only about 70,000 domains have been registered in India itself. Currently, good in-domains are for a few hundred dollars traded.

At the moment I have some asia domains. Some I got in a auction. For example; goldprice.asia, mailbox.asia, memorystick.asia, mediaplayer.asia, swissbank.asia and some more.

Somebody got this week the domain; lasvegas.asia via sedo.com for about 37000 USD.

So I hope the asia domain market will grow up in the future.

Risks
What are the risks of trading domain? Does it make sense if I register talk.com.mx? Com.mx is a Mexican domain. Talk an English name. Can I find buyers for this domainnames ?

I can't answer this question yet. But Rick Latona wrote me in a mail that it makes little sense to register English name with the ending com.mx.

And what I think? Why not!

(New: Meanwhile, Rick Latona changed his mind about com.mx domains. Now he registered himself a lot of com.mx domains. )

Another important point is in which time can I sell my domains. For very popular domains can I get requests quickly. But in my case the first offers I got three years after when I registered my first india domains.

What name do I register? Are names like wrrf.us or nanoonly.us to use? (Seen on a Deletinglist) Perhaps if they were with the ending. com they are saleable. Maybe.

Are creations like; eflightticket.cn, eflightticket.asia asked?, Medium or long term?

I think yes, but definitely I can only say it in 1 to 3 years. Until then, the annual registration fees have to be paid.

Registrars
Where do I register my domains? What providers are good?

So far I made very good experiences with united-domains.de, even they aren't the cheapest one. The domain administration is comfortable and practical.

Meanwhile, I registering most of my domains with domaindiscount24.com because the domains there are cheaper. In addition, I have in the domain administration more functions available, for example, concerning transfer, the nameserver can be changed by the owner, etc.

Important for Non-Europeanbuyers z.b. Swiss: domaindiscount24.com brings the 19% value-added tax deduction directly into what other registrars, for example, have specifically requested.

In part, I also using different Registrars, it is always dependent on the extension where available. The domain mediaplayer.tw I registered by mcac.net. Mcac.net offers a wide range of countries endings.

Of course there are many good registrars. Just look at Google and you will have the choice.

Prices offered by Domains

It is no secret, each Domainer wants to sell his domains at the best price. sometimes for absolutely unrealistic prices. So I tried recently to buy a surname domain who was already registered. It was a de (german) domain. The owner wanted to have 30000 Euro. What do you think about ?

Then there are the absolute success domain like pizza.com who was sold for 2.6 million U.S. dollars. It should be noted that pizza.com was sold with an already existing site.

Recently I registered the following names:

mediaplayer.asia, memorystick.asia, goldprice.asia, mailbox.asia, swissbank.asia, esther.asia, financial-service.asia, private-bank.asia

With the hope to sell them within two or three years.

Many Domainer park theire domains on a company like sedo.com, parked.com to earn small money, whenever visitors click on some advertisment.

At the moment I trying trafficz.com. I don't now they are the best, but I like their service. In a week I got more money then in a year with sedo.com.
